Tanzanian students participate in Huawei’s digital talent study camp in China

Dar es Salaam. Ten Tanzanian university students recently attended the Huawei Sub-Saharan Leadership, Employability, Advancement, and Possibilities (Leap) digital talent study camp in China.
The camp, held from November 18 to November 22, 2023, was aimed at equipping young talent with advanced digital skills and fostering innovation across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Hosted at Huawei's global headquarters in Shenzhen, the camp brought together students from 17 countries, including Tanzania, Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya.
Participants hailed from the University of Dar es Salaam, the University of Dodoma and the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT). Huawei sponsored their return flights, accommodation and training.
The week-long event featured ICT courses on Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G, digital power, cloud computing and leadership workshops.
The camp concluded with the Tech4Good competition, where participants developed technology-driven solutions for societal challenges.
Huawei’s Leap programme, launched in 2022, is committed to cultivating a digitally skilled workforce in Africa.
Over the next three years, Huawei plans to train an additional 150,000 young people in digital skills across Sub-Saharan Africa.
