  • In the ladies’ category, Bilha Muthoni, playing off handicap 27, emerged victorious with an impressive 42 points—despite playing 36 holes in one day.
  • The Thika Sports Club golfer first teed off in her club’s Ladies’ Open in the morning before heading to Thika Greens for the afternoon competition.

Handicap 22 Steve Njoroge upstaged a competitive field on Saturday to claim the overall title at the Murang’a Investment Conference golf tournament held at Thika Greens Golf Resort.

The home player produced a remarkable round of 45 Stableford points on the par-72 championship course to secure the top prize.

Njoroge credited the favourable weather and pristine course conditions for his performance, saying they allowed for consistent and confident play throughout the round.

"Many things conspired today. My chipping was on target and the course was playing well. My first nine was the best, as it gave me momentum for the day with only one bogey. Honestly, I was surprised when I heard my name that I had emerged top,” said Njoroge.

He started strong with two birdies on the par-3 holes, compiling 24 points on the front nine. Despite some late challenges, he added 21 points on the back nine to close with the tournament's highest score.

"There were delays on the course, and such interruptions can easily break your focus and throw off your rhythm. I believe I could have done better on hole 12, where I was expecting to make a par," he noted, after dropping double bogeys on holes 12 and 16.

In the ladies’ category, Bilha Muthoni, playing off handicap 27, emerged victorious with an impressive 42 points—despite playing 36 holes in one day.

The Thika Sports Club golfer first teed off in her club’s Ladies’ Open in the morning before heading to Thika Greens for the afternoon competition.

"It was an interesting day for me doing 36 holes and at least emerging a winner here. I managed two birdies, and of course, getting birdies is one of the best feelings in this game.

Today was a good day on the course—I made very few mistakes. My putting, drives, and chipping were all good,” said Muthoni, who posted 20 points on the front nine and 22 on the back.

The tournament drew a field of 190 golfers from clubs across Kenya, merging sport with business networking as part of the larger Murang’a Investment Conference.

The event attracted national and international investors, diaspora representatives, government officials, and business leaders, all keen to explore Murang’a County’s potential in sectors like manufacturing, agro-processing, healthcare, ICT, recreation, and sports.

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, speaking at the awards ceremony, lauded the event as a powerful convergence of sport and enterprise.

"This is a culmination of the best of both worlds in Murang’a: sports tourism and business. The golf event is a perfect ending to a successful two-day Murang’a Investment Conference,” said Kang’ata.

Thika Greens Golf Captain Henry Kinyua echoed those sentiments, noting how the sport is increasingly being embraced as a platform for economic engagement.

"The turnout was encouraging and a strong indication that sport is a powerful tool for interaction and networking—especially for the business community. There can be no better forum for this kind of engagement than in golf,” said Kinyua.

The investment conference, and its golf finale, was officially opened by President William Ruto on Friday.
