Stop fake papers menace in Kenya

Degree

Use of fake academic qualifications in Kenya is something that has been going on for decades now and getting worse by the years.

Tough job • National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi “is under severe stress as he strives to allocate the available limited resources to various areas, with debt repayment coming first”, says Githuku Mungai. Alluding to the CS’s days as the opposition ODM party national chairman, Githuku adds: “He has a job to do and no longer talks about skunks. Talking is easy.” His contact is [email protected].

Fake papers • Some institutions are facilitating the issuing of fake university degrees, says John Mukiri. “Why would a government official pursue a doctorate not related to his work? Universities enable this by accepting diplomas from sub-standard colleges. A police officer managed to acquire bachelor’s and master’s degrees yet he never attended a full-time class.” His contact is [email protected].

Poor drainage • Residents of First Parklands Avenue near Oshwal Junior School in Nairobi are disappointed by the failure to maintain the drainage system, says Edward Miller. “Every downpour creates a lake on the road. Residents can’t move for hours until the water subsides, not to mention the damage to property and motor vehicles.” His contact is [email protected].

Ill-prepared • The Kenya police mission to Haiti “was a disaster from the word go”, says David M. Kigo. “The officers were neither prepared nor had the capacity to deal with the deadly Port-au-Prince gangs.” For a police service that has failed to tame even cattle rustling back home, he adds, this assignment was a tall order that has resulted in the painful loss of two young lives. Impressed • Youthful Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traore has impressed Jediel Muthuri with his innovative leadership. “He has just launched the Confederal Bank for Investment and Development for Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali with their own currencies to be backed by their gold reserves. He needs no permission from the IMF and World Bank to do this.” His contact is [email protected].

Have an impressive day, won’t you!
