Politics in church • Churches should not just restrain politicians from speaking at the altar, they should extend this ban to the compound, says Chris Kiriba. “The sanctity of the church is founded on the entire ground on which it stands. But on tithing and thanksgiving, the churches should allow all to do it in whichever way they deem fit and let’s all leave judgment God.” His contact is [email protected].

Road repairs • The cry of the Nairobi motorists about the dilapidated section towards the Chiromo/Waiyaki Way junction has been heard and the contractor is already back on site, says Ruth Gituma. Her only grouse, though, is the timing of work, which begins at 7am on weekdays. “This is causing massive traffic jam worsened by the current heavy rains in the city.” Her contact is [email protected].

Biased hiring • The recruitment of chiefs shouldn’t be influenced by politicians, but this is common in Wajir County and it happened again recently, says Abdirashid Abdinoor. “This compromises the integrity and fairness that should guide such important decisions. The Interior ministry should restore public confidence by appointing only qualified individuals.” His contact is [email protected].

Fire risk • A recent nightclub fire in the Dominican Republic that claimed 221 lives has left Brian Maitai reflecting on the situation in Nairobi. Says he: “Nightclubs are always congested and with no fire escapes or firefighting equipment. Add the fact that we serve flammable alcoholic spirits and our poor firefighting service, we’ve a perfect ‘fire storm’ brewing.” His contact is [email protected].

Raise stipend • The government should increase the cash transfer to the elderly and orphans to enable them to afford a balanced diet amid the rising cost of living, Kelvin Malenya pleads. “The poor and vulnerable can only be protected by ensuring food security. The larger households definitely have greater needs and are prone to nutritional vulnerability.”
