Dar es Salaam. Tanzania will host its first-ever Dental Expo from May 30 to 31, 2025, aimed at raising awareness and improving access to oral healthcare services across the country.

The two-day event, to be held at Mlimani City grounds in Dar es Salaam, is being organised by the Ministry of Health, the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), and oral health stakeholders.

The expo will attract both local and international dental professionals who will offer free consultations and screenings to the public.

Speaking at a briefing yesterday, the Director of Tanzania Dental Expo and member of the World Dental Federation (FDI), Dr Ambege Jack Mwakatobe, said preparations were complete for the historic event, which will be officially opened by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Hon Selemani Jaffo.

“We expect professionals from Europe, Asia, and America to showcase modern dental technologies and provide training for local practitioners,” said Dr Mwakatobe.

He noted that over 3.5 billion people globally, including Tanzanians, face oral health challenges. “This is a rare opportunity for Tanzanians to receive quality services using state-of-the-art equipment free of charge,” he added.

Dr Baraka Nzobo, Chairperson of the exhibition board, highlighted the event's potential to transform Tanzania’s oral health landscape, calling on banks, insurers, and health institutions to participate and explore areas of collaboration.

Dr Leonora Assevi urged the public to attend in large numbers, encouraging regular check-ups and awareness on links between oral health and conditions such as diabetes.

The expo aims to equip professionals and the public alike with practical knowledge and modern tools to enhance oral healthcare delivery nationwide.
