  • Golugwa was arrested at Julius Nyerere International Airport while preparing to board a flight to Brussels, Belgium.

Dar es Salaam. The Deputy Secretary-General of Chadema (Mainland), Aman Golugwa, has been released after being held for several hours by the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police, lawyer Dickson Matata has confirmed.

Mr Golugwa was reportedly detained for questioning over allegations of secretly traveling in and out of Tanzania. Earlier today, the police acknowledged detaining him for investigation purposes.

In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, police said Golugwa was arrested at 12:45 a.m at Julius Nyerere International Airport while preparing to board a flight to Brussels, Belgium.

Chadema had earlier raised the alarm on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that Golugwa was on his way to represent the party at an International Democracy Union (IDU) conference set to begin tomorrow in Belgium.

Speaking to The Citizen sister paper Mwananchi shortly after his release, lawyer Matata said all bail procedures had been completed.

“He has been released not long ago after all the bail formalities were finalized, along with others,” said Matata, who also serves as Chadema’s Western Zone Chairperson.
