Dorothy Semu picks nomination forms to challenge President Samia in 2025 General Election

Dar es Salaam. ACT Wazalendo Party leader Comrade Dorothy Semu has officially stepped into the race for the presidency after picking up nomination forms to run for President of the United Republic of Tanzania, setting the stage with incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.

The announcement was made today, April 22, 2025, at the ACT Wazalendo Party Headquarters in Dar es Salaam, where Ms Semu received her nomination form from the party’s Secretary of Organization, Training, and Elections, Comrade Shaweji Mketo.

Speaking shortly after collecting the form, Comrade Semu declared her readiness to lead the country, citing the need for a new direction in national leadership.

“I have submitted this form as a sign of my readiness to challenge President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) because they have failed to govern the nation and protect Tanzanians economically, politically, and socially,” she stated.

Ms Semu further emphasised that her decision was not just about seeking office but about defending the country’s democratic ideals.

“I have collected this form as a sign of my readiness to lead the struggle to protect the value of the vote and the principles of democracy in our country,” she said.

She also announced plans to unveil her full vision and reasons for seeking the presidency in a national address that will take place on the day she returns the completed form. The date of that address, she noted, will be announced soon.

If confirmed as the party’s presidential candidate, Dorothy Semu will become one of the most high-profile opposition figures to take on the CCM in the 2025 general elections.
