Access Bank empowers students with financial literacy during global money week

Dar es Salaam. Access Bank Tanzania today hosted a transformative financial education session at Dar es Salaam Secondary School, impacting over 500 students aged 13 to 18.

The session, part of the 2025 Global Money Week initiative, aimed to equip young Tanzanians with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed financial decisions, promoting financial literacy and economic empowerment.

Global Money Week, a global campaign focused on empowering young people with financial skills, provided the perfect backdrop for this initiative. It is designed to equip students with the tools to manage their finances responsibly, helping them build a secure financial future.

Access Bank's participation in this global campaign aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision for youth empowerment. In her 2025 Education and Training Policy address, President Suluhu Hassan emphasized the importance of developing individuals who are confident and equipped to contribute to Tanzania’s economic growth. This initiative directly supports her efforts to nurture youth capable of utilizing the nation's resources effectively.

Hassan Abdullahi, Deputy Managing Director of Access Bank Tanzania, underscored the significance of financial literacy in shaping the future of the nation.

“Tanzania is rich in potential, and by developing essential financial skills such as budgeting, saving, and responsible spending, you are paving the way for financial independence and long-term prosperity,” Abdullahi said.

“Our goal is to help you young and vibrant students build a secure financial future, unlocking opportunities that will not only benefit you but also contribute to the growth of Tanzania.”

The session offered students an engaging platform to learn vital financial concepts through expert guest speakers and interactive activities. Topics such as budgeting, saving, and responsible spending were discussed in an interactive and practical format, allowing students to better understand the fundamentals of managing their money.

Hoseni Njau, Headmaster of Dar es Salaam Secondary School, encouraged students to apply the knowledge gained from the session to shape their financial futures. He emphasized that the financial decisions made today would play a pivotal role in determining their long-term stability and success.

To further support the school’s academic efforts, Access Bank also donated notebooks and essential supplies to Dar es Salaam Secondary School, reinforcing the bank’s commitment to sustainable development and its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

This event marks just one of the many initiatives Access Bank is undertaking to promote financial inclusion and literacy, helping to empower the next generation of Tanzanians.
