Dar es Salaam. Former Miss Tanzania event coordinator Hashim Lundenga died on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Itengule Hospital in Tegeta, Dar es Salaam, at the age of 67.
Miss Tanzania Committee Secretary, Mr Bosco Majaliwa, confirmed his death.
“Yes, Hashim Lundenga passed away about two hours ago at Itengule Hospital. He had been unwell for a long time. Many people were aware of his condition—he suffered a stroke some time ago,” he said.
“He was initially admitted to Muhimbili National Hospital, later transferred to Mloganzila, and eventually continued treatment through outpatient services. However, his health continued to deteriorate,” he added.
According to him, yesterday, his condition worsened, and he was taken to Itengule, where he sadly passed away, “The funeral is currently taking place at his home in Bunju.”
Regarding burial arrangements, he added: “We are currently at the hospital arranging to move the body to the mortuary. The family will meet at his home later to decide on the burial and formal funeral arrangements.”
Mr Lundenga, who has been battling illness for an extended period, played a pivotal role in establishing and promoting the Miss Tanzania beauty pageant.
He began coordinating the event in 1994 and led it for more than two decades before stepping down in 2018, when Basila Mwanukuzi took over.
In addition to his contribution to the pageant industry, the deceased was also a member of the Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) executive committee, where he was widely respected for his dedication to the team.
Details regarding the official funeral programme will be released after consultations by the family.
