Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered that all police stations should have CCTV surveillance within two years, adding that tampering with cameras will be criminalised.

During a press conference Monday afternoon, he also ordered the digitisation of all Occurrence Books (OBs) at police stations, as well as annual trainings for Officers Commanding Stations (OCSs) to instill professionalism across all ranks.

The directives follow the controversial death of Albert Ojwang at Central Police Station in Nairobi.

As CS Murkomen made the address, Central Police Station OCS Samson Talam was in court over the death of Ojwang. The State sought to detain him for 21 days amid investigations into what happened at the station.
