Following the conclusion of the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League playoffs, focus now shifts to the Kenya Cup, where anticipation is building for another round of high-stakes clashes between the country’s top teams.

Final Series Results:

Game 1: GSU 3-0 KPA – A clinical performance from the champions, dominating all facets of play.

Game 2: KPA 3-1 GSU – The Dockers hit back with power, pushing the title race to a deciding match.

Game 3: GSU 3-0 KPA – GSU showed their class, sealing the trophy with another straight-sets win.

Both teams credited their improved form to the 2025 Africa Club Championship, where they gained valuable exposure despite falling short of the semifinals.

That experience elevated their intensity and team cohesion, sharpening them for the rigors of the domestic campaign.

GSU head coach Gideon Tarus lauded his team’s mental growth.

“It’s been an elusive season—one where nothing came easy,” said Tarus.

“We struggled early on, but the intensity at the Africa Club Championship helped us reflect and grow.

We came back tougher and more focused. Now our attention turns to the Kenya Cup. I don’t want to preempt anything, but we’ll give it our best to chase a double.”

KPA, despite falling short in the league final, remain bullish ahead of the Kenya Cup.

Head coach James Ontere says the pain of the recent defeat has only added to their hunger.

“We fell short, yes, but this isn’t the end,” said Ontere.

“We’ll be back for the Kenya Cup, and this time, we’re coming for GSU. They should come prepared—we’re not done yet.”

Captain Dennis Omollo echoed those sentiments, crediting the Africa Club Championship for fast-tracking the team’s growth.

“The level of play at the club championship was far above what we’re used to. It forced us to step up,” said Omollo.

“Even though we didn’t finish high, it was a great learning moment, and it made us better. We’re not the same team we were a few months ago.”

With the Kenya Cup—a knockout competition that crowns the season’s overall cup winners—set for early July at Nyayo Stadium, fans can expect fireworks. GSU will aim to complete the double, while KPA are out for revenge.
