What you need to know:

  • Kibera’s Vivian Shiyonzo won the Golden Glove with three clean sheets in five matches.
  • Kibera Soccer Women carted away the trophy in addition to Sh650,000 in prize money.

Super sub Stella Adhiambo’s 90th minute goal secured Kibera Soccer Women the 2025 Football Kenya Federation Women’s Cup as they defeated Vihiga Queens 1-0 in the final at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru, on Saturday.

Adhiambo took advantage of a defensive error by Vihiga’s Ruth Khasoha to stab the ball home as extra time looked increasingly inevitable.

This was Kibera’s first major title, earning them some Sh650,000 in prize money. The match was preceded by a moment of silence in honour of Joseph Mwanza, the late Ulinzi Starlets coach, who led his team to three consecutive Cup titles in 2021, 2022, and 2024. He died last September.

Kibera’s Vivian Shiyonzo won the Golden Glove (three clean sheets in five matches), Vihiga’s striker Diana Cherono won the Golden Boot (four goals), and Kibera’s striker Faith Mboya was named the tournament MVP.

After the evenly balanced match, Kibera received medals, a trophy, and Sh650,000, while four-time FKF-WPL champions Vihiga received medals.

Kibera’s Faith Mboya missed the first clear chance of the game in the seventh minute after a collision between midfielder Lilian Mboga and Vihiga goalkeeper Mercy Akoth created an opening.

Mboya combined well with Ann Arusi to set up Maximila Robi who fired wide on 11 minutes. Vihiga hit back in the 15th minute, Lice Muderi bursting through but hitting the side netting.

Vihiga thought they had taken the lead in the 37th minute when Cherono headed home striker Martha Amunyolet’s free kick, but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul.

Vihiga coach Boniface Nyamuhnyamuh made a double substitution at half time, bringing in Christine Adhiambo for Diana Otieno and Swaum Masungo for Maureen Eseri.

In the 63rd minute, Mboya missed another clear chance, leading to her substitution and Adhiambo’s entry three minutes later by coach David Bujego.

Nyamuhnyamuh made another double substitution in the 70th minute to sharpen the attack with Robai Kabedi replacing Providence Mukhalo, and Vivia Mogaka coming on for Cherono, but these changes proved ineffective.

“The team’s win was down to luck after a tough game and season having lost many chances and missed out on the league title after a long chase. I thank the players for their effort. These player were recruited from lower leagues due to the club’s limited resources” said Kibera’s Bujego said.

His Vihiga counterpart Nyamuhnyamu said: “We lost the Cup to a strong team. We were not lucky this season with a bad start with a young squad."

On their way to the final, Kibera eliminated former champions Ulinzi Starlets (4-3 on penalties), Bullets (2-0), Sunderland Samba (2-0), and Gaspo Women (6-0).

Vihiga defeated Bungoma Queens (2-1), Eldoret Falcons (4-1), Iron Ladies (5-1), and Gene Queens (8-7 on penalties).
