What you need to know:

  • Apart from the Bidco draw, Mihic also oversaw a goalless stalemate against Tusker on February 16. He began his tenure at K’Ogalo with a 2-1 win over Mathare United on February 8.
  • Gor Mahia edged Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 in their first-leg encounter on December 22, 2023. The Slum Boys have not beaten K’Ogalo since June 7, 2021.

Kenya Police will aim to widen their lead at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) table when they host AFC Leopards in a rescheduled midweek fixture at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos Tuesday.

On Wednesday, defending champions Gor Mahia, under pressure from fans, will face a tricky test against Kariobangi Sharks at Dandora Stadium.

Kenya Police currently lead the table with 41 points from 22 matches, level with Tusker, who have played a game more, but have an inferior goal difference.

Under Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije, the law enforcers were on a 13-match unbeaten run before suffering a shock 1-0 loss to Mathare United on February 20.Before that defeat, Kenya Police’s last loss was also a 1-0 setback against Leopards in Ndayiragije’s first game in charge.

A win against Mathare would have given them a four-point cushion at the top with a game in hand.

Following the Mathare loss, Ndayiragije pointed out his team’s struggles in ball recovery and dealing with set pieces and long balls.

Leopards, however, will not be easy opponents. They have been inconsistent this season and are coming off a goalless draw against Sofapaka, where they wasted numerous scoring chances.

“We have a big headache in scoring goals, and that is what I have been working on so that we can win matches. Our striking department has to pull up its socks,” said Leopards coach Tom Juma Ambani yesterday.

Forward Maxwell Otieno leads Leopards’ goal-scoring chart with four goals, trailing Golden Boot leader Ryan Ogam of Tusker by 11 goals. Ingwe have managed just four goals in their last five matches and currently sit fifth in the league with 34 points from 21 matches.

In the last six meetings between these two sides, Leopards have won twice, Kenya Police once, while three matches have ended in draws.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic could face further backlash from fans if his side fails to beat Kariobangi Sharks in Dandora. The Croatian tactician was booed and warned by supporters after Gor Mahia's goalless draw against Bidco United two weeks ago in Machakos.

Gor Mahia, third on the table with 36 points from 21 games, have struggled to maintain their usual dominant form this season.

Kariobangi Sharks, battling relegation, are 14th with 22 points, having won just four matches—the least in the league so far this season.

Apart from the Bidco draw, Mihic also oversaw a goalless stalemate against Tusker on February 16. He began his tenure at K’Ogalo with a 2-1 win over Mathare United on February 8.

Gor Mahia edged Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 in their first-leg encounter on December 22, 2023. The Slum Boys have not beaten K’Ogalo since June 7, 2021.
