US-based Kenyan runner, Edwin Kurgat, put up a spirited fight to finish fourth in men’s 10,000 metres race in the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting in Oregon on Saturday, attaining the qualification standard for 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Kurgat, 29, ran for long spells among athletes in the chasing group at Hayward Field in Oregon but closed the gap in the final two laps to finish fourth in a personal best time of 26 minutes, 46.35 seconds.
In a show of total dominance, Ethiopian athletes occupied the top three positions in the race.
Ishmael Kipkurui of Kenya finished fifth in a personal best time of 26:47.72, followed by Benson Kiplangat in 26:50.00.
