Another huge pay day for Emily Chepkemoi at Nairobi City Marathon

Eldoret City Marathon champion Emily Chepkemoi added yet another title to her collection with victory at the 2025 Nairobi City Marathon on Sunday.
Chepkemoi, 26, pulled away after the halfway mark and never looked back to win in two hours, 25 minutes and 52 seconds to pocket Sh3.5million, a similar amount pocketed when winning in Eldoret last year.
Chepkemoi, who had finished fourth at Eldoret City Marathon in 2022, said she changed her training with more endurance training and hill work to win.

“I started slow but gradually picked from half way mark. Nobody reacted by when I surged ahead,” said Chepkemoi, the mother of one, fell and failed to finish during the inaugural Nairobi City Marathon in 2022.
The Rosa Associati Management athlete said her dream is to continue providing a good life to her family and parents in Elgeyo Marakwet.
“Pocketing a total of Sh 7 million within one year is just a blessing from God and I don’t take it for granted,” said Chepkemoi, who finished ninth at last year’s Paris Marathon.

Chepkemoi beat teammates the 2024 Eindhoven Marathon champion Vivian Jerotich and Lucy Chelele to second and third places in 2:26:33 and 2:26:37 respectively.
“Chepkemoi looked strong. We tried to chase but it was all in vain. She had gained a considerable gap,” said Jerotich, who was fresh from finishing fifth at Daegu Marathon in April this year.
Nelvin Jepkemboi won the women’s 21km race in 1:09:25, with Millicent Jelimo finishing second in 1:09:40 as Emily Chebet clocked 1:10:21 for third place.
