Security was tightened in all venues where President William Ruto visited on Monday in Migori County after a security breach the previous day when a shoe was thrown at the Head of State.

Police officers assigned to protect the President enforced stricter crowd control measures, including keeping members of the public at bay.

Notable changes were also made on how the President addressed people who gathered at the different places he stopped.

On Monday, the President addressed county residents from the sunroof of his car, which might be considered safer as opposed to podiums like the one he used during the shoe-hurling incident.

More security officers were also deployed to accompany the Head of State as to compared to Sunday.

Backup security was provided by enforcement officers from Migori County government.

President Ruto began his tour of the county with a prayer service at Kadika Primary School in Suba East that brought together various churches.

He later moved to Suna West before proceeding to Kehancha in Kuria West where the shoe-hurling incident happened.

Videos that captured the incident showed a shoe flying from the crowd and hitting President Ruto who was mid-speech.

Dr Ruto started his second day tour with an inspection of the ongoing construction of Riosiri Market.

After inspection, he was ushered to his car which drove a few meters to the road from Rongo Town where he addressed the public from the sunroof. The President then proceeded to Rongo Town where he addressed the residents from the same car.

He later moved to St Paul’s Rongo Mixed Secondary School where a podium with a red carpet for the president to stand on as he spoke to the crowd. But President Ruto avoided it and chose to use his car instead.

During the stopovers, the President's vehicle was at all times surrounded by plainclothes security personnel, General Service Unit (GSU) officers and armed officers from elite police units.

At Muhuru Bay, hawked-eyed police officers were on the look out for anyone carrying an object in the crowd.

Members of the public who had items like bottles of water and lifted them up were instructed to put them down. Those who disobeyed the directive were roughed up by the security officers.

One man was seen being forced to put down an orange which he was carrying in his hands.

The security personnel also prevented members of the public from getting too close to the President's car.

Meanwhile, police in Kuria West have promised to give an update of the Sunday incident.
