One of the missing Mlolongo men who were allegedly abducted by persons believed to be police officers has been found dead.
The body of Justus Mutumwa was found in Ruai, according to Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo.
The legislator told a press conference at Milimani Law Courts that the body was found on Wednesday evening and was collected by police officers.
Mutumwa, Martin Mwau and Karani Muema were abducted between December 16 and 17, 2024, and have been missing since then.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) filed a habeas corpus application to compel the police to produce them or their bodies in court.
“The information has come to us when the proceedings were going on in court as the inspector General of Police Kanja and DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigations) boss Mohamed Amin were in court telling the judge that the missing persons were not in police custody,” he said.
He said the police took fingerprints of the body to confirm whether it was Mutumwa.
The politician, who is also a lawyer, further said his uncles and sister confirmed the body to be that of their missing kin.
Mr Maanzo added that although the police claimed they played no role in the ongoing abductions, they have a legal duty to investigate the matter.
Mr Kanja had earlier told the court that the missing men were not in police custody and the matter was being investigated.
The police boss said reports of the missing persons were made at Athi River and Mlolongo police stations, and that he immediately instructed Mr Amin to investigate the matter.
Mr Kanja and Mr Amin appeared in court after snubbing summons on three other occasions.
The LSK said in the petition that the abductions were conducted in dramatic fashion and in broad daylight, some under the glare of CCTV footage.
Some of the footage were played in court in a separate matter before Justice Bahati Mwamuye.
