Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo shot dead by gunman on Ngong Road
Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong'ondo Were has been shot dead in Nairobi, two months after he claimed his life was in danger.
According to police, Were was fatally injured on Wednesday when a gunman on a motorcycle shot him at 7.30 pm near the City Mortuary roundabout.
According to witnesses, the MP was attacked by two assailants whose motive was not immediately clear.
One of the attackers, who were trailing the lawmaker's car, reportedly alighted from the motorbike and fired at the MP at close range, fatally injuring him.
“He was shot near the City Mortuary Roundabout, he was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital that is all I know,” a senior officer based in Nairobi told the Nation.
The officer said that the family would be in a better position to give updates on the current affairs.
Already, investigations have been started to find out the identity of two people who trailed the lawmaker while riding on a motorbike and shot him at close range.
His driver survived the fatal attack.

The gunmen seem to have been so brazen as they dared to commit such a crime on a highway that is known to be well secured and full of CCTV cameras.
Two hours after his shooting, officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were at the crime scene.
After the shooting, he was taken to Nairobi Hospital Accident and Emergency area which was immediately cordoned off. After news of the shooting, a host of MPs, Police Inspector-General Douglas Kanja and DCI Mohamed Amin arrived at Nairobi Hospital. His body has been moved to Lee Funeral Home.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma said the slain legislator left parliamentary chambers shortly after 8pm. He said the House was still sitting when Suba South MP Millie Odhiambo called and notified him of the incident.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula said: "This callous and cowardly act committed under the cover of night has robbed the nation of a distinguished legislator, a fearless advocate for his constituents, and a man deeply committed to the democratic ideals and service to the people he represented."
