June 25 demos: Several protesters injured in Nairobi

A police water cannon sprays protesters on Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi on June 25, 2025. Several protesters sustained injuries.

Medical camps in Nairobi’s Central Business District treated several people injured during Wednesday’s protests.
At one of the camps near Jamia Mosque, all three tents were busy as medics worked to save the lives of injured protesters.
President of the Kenya Medical Association Dr Simon Kigondi confirmed they had received patients with various types of injuries including gunshot wounds.
“Some patients were bleeding from head injuries caused by stones, others suffered hand injuries after attempting to handle tear gas canisters which we strongly advise against. There were also cases of bullet wounds,” Dr Kigondi said.
He explained that the medics at the camp were administering first aid to victims who had been shot before referring them to Kenyatta National Hospital for further treatment.
Among those seriously injured was a female police officer who was reportedly attacked by protesters.
She had been in the company of about 10 officers equipped with protective gear but without firearms or tear gas canisters.
Protestors pelted the officers with stones, forcing them to flee for safety.
Unfortunately, the female officer slipped and fell while running toward Muindi Mbingu Street from Kenyatta Avenue and was left behind by her colleagues.
It took the efforts of a few protesters to rescue her from being lynched by the angry crowd.
She was rushed to the medical camp and later taken away by police officers for further treatment.
