What you need to know:

  • Bebe Cool's new 16-track album blends Afrobeats, Afropop, Afrotech and Afro-house.
  • The album was released in Nairobi last week, with Bebe Cool hosting a listening party.

Ugandan music legend Bebe Cool says his decision to launch his 10th studio album in Kenya, 10 years since his last album, was to pay homage to the roots of his music.

“I was made in Kenya. I moved to Kenya in the late 90s with a dream to become a music superstar because, at the time, Uganda did not offer any promising opportunities for someone to become a musician,” Bebe Cool said.

“Everything changed for me when I moved to Kenya. My musical success, that journey began here. And so, in a very special way, to mark the release of my 10th studio album and celebrate 30 years of my music career, I felt there was no better place,” he said.

Special place in my heart

The album, Break the Chains, was released in Nairobi last week, with Bebe Cool hosting a number of industry players and his former East African Bashment Crew members, Nazizi and Wyre to a listening party.

“Nairobi holds a special place in my heart. It will always be a second home for me. This is where my journey truly took flight,” he said.

Bebe Cool describes his latest album as an expression of artistic freedom, emotional healing and breaking through personal and professional limitations.

The 16-track album blends Afrobeats, Afropop, Afrotech and Afro-house, anchored in Bebe Cool’s distinct vocal signature and storytelling prowess.
