A daughter is among 20 witnesses lined up to testify against her mother charged with killing her father, a former marathon champion.

Vienna Kandie, a daughter to Samson Kandie, is among key prosecution witnesses expected to testify against three prime suspects, including her mother, in the murder trial.

Kandie, a former Vienna City marathon champion, was hacked to death by unknown assailants on October 4, 2024 at his Elgon View residence in Eldoret City.

Rose Chepkemboi Rotich, a former clinical officer at Kabarnet County Referral Hospital in Baringo County, was among the suspects who were arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the murder of her estranged husband.

Ms Rotich, a mother of four, alongside her co-accused persons Vincent Ngososei Kiprono and Jamlick Kiptoon Morogit, have since denied killing the 53-year-old former marathoner.

State counsel Sidi Kirenge on Monday told Justice Reuben Nyakundi of Eldoret High Court that they also intend to use photographs and other digital evidence to prove their case against the murder suspects.

“Your lordship, we also intend to call experts, among them the government pathologist to prove our case against the accused persons,” said Ms Kirenge.

The suspects, who were all denied bond on security grounds, have since been remanded at Eldoret prison.

This was after their plea to the presiding Judge to review the decision to deny them bail was dismissed for a third time.

The widow is said to have had a long-standing domestic feud with her husband before she was implicated in his killing.

According to a police report, nothing was stolen from Kandie on the fateful night except his mobile phone.

The case will be heard on two consecutive days on May 14 and 15 respectively.
