A blogger sued by a Kitui MP for defamation was Tuesday arrested and locked up in a police cell in Nairobi.

The arrest came just a day after he was served with court orders gagging him.

Mr Mbuvi Kasina was picked up by detectives in Kitengela as he prepared to challenge the court orders restraining him “from posting offensive statements” on Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai on Facebook.

His lawyer, Mr Kamunda Njue, said the police had not explained the reasons for arresting Mr Kasina over a civil matter in court.

“Mr Kasina was arrested (in) Kitengela and brought to Parliament police station for questioning, but we have demanded that he be charged immediately,” he said.

The lawyer accused the police of being used by the MP to harass his client.

He vowed to challenge the gag order against him.

Mr Kasina, a resident of Kanziko Location, claimed his problems were a result of his demand for accountability in the management of money in the Constituency Development Fund.
